These German made stone setting pliers are used to tighten loose prongs or for the initial setting of prong mounted stones. The jaws are shaped and grooved so that they fit over the prongs on a setting. These pliers feature the finest steel and box-joint construction. Overall length is 5 inches.
Tripp's Easy Mount Gemsetting Pliers feature a 10:1 lever ratio and adjustable, parallel closing jaws and limited travel. This unique tool is a patented design made specifically for prong-mounting gemstones. Unlike ordinary pliers that close with a scissors action, Tripp's Easy Mount Gem Set pliers close with a parallel motion. This feature helps you to control the pliers so they don't slip off the prongs as you work. Regular pliers actually push against your hand as hard as they do against the prong, requiring you to maintain control in two different directions. But with Tripp's Easy Mount Gem Set pliers, the force is concentrated in one direction, which makes the pliers much easier to manage. Another feature is the ten-to-one lever ratio. This gives ten times more pressure to the tip of the jaws than you exert on the lever itself. For instance, if you squeeze the pliers with 5 pounds of pressure, you exert 50 pounds of pressure to the tip of the jaws. That means you can set your gemstones with minimum effort and maximum control. A third feature of the Tripp's Easy Mount Gem Set Pliers is the limited travel distance. The jaws move only 1 millimeter, or about 1/3 the thickness of a pencil lead, decreasing or eliminating the possibility of damage to your setting or stone. So this limited travel distance, combined with the parallel closing jaws, gives you maximum control and less slippage. If you should slip, the limited-distance-travel feature will stop the inward motion of the jaws and help keep you from possibly crushing the stone. The jaws are adjustable so they can fit prongs ranging from 2.5 to 15 millimeters high by simply turning an opening adjustment wheel.
